VocalizeIoT Empowers Tanzanian Youth Through Hands-On IoT Training at VETA Kipawa

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – May 2025 — The VocalizeIoT Project has reached a key milestone in Tanzania with the successful completion of its first IoT short course at VETA Kipawa, empowering 35 young participants with the technical and entrepreneurial skills needed to thrive in a digital future.

Spanning 4 weeks from February 27 to May 28 2025, the training program was designed as a hybrid model, combining online theoretical modules with weekly 8-hour in-person hands-on sessions. The course focused on real-world applications of IoT, with students learning to work with Waziup technologies such as WaziDev and WaziGate, sensor integration, cloud connectivity, and data visualization.

Participants engaged in group projects, collaborated on problem-solving tasks and even conducted site visits to institutions like University of Dar es Salaam, College of Information and Communication Technologies, gaining exposure to advanced IoT use cases. The program culminated in the development of community-driven prototypes, addressing local challenges and reinforcing the role of vocational training in fostering innovation.

Facilitated by a team of national trainers and Waziup experts, the initiative also integrated entrepreneurial guidance and digital classroom tools, positioning VETA Kipawa as a model hub for future-focused vocational education in Tanzania.

The success of this first cohort illustrates the transformative potential of practical IoT education within the TVET ecosystem, reinforcing the importance of skill-based learning and public-private collaboration in shaping a resilient, digitally empowered workforce.
